At YPrime, we know systems and clinical research– and are committed to forward-thinking solutions. From our origins as eclinical technology consultants for the biopharma industry, this is how we developed powerful applications to advance critical data functions for clinical research. Understanding and knowledge come from experience. YPrime offers more than a decade of focused work with clinical systems to expedite and improve the quality of patient management, clinical supplies, drug accountability and clinical data. Our mission is simple: To support our clients in the timely and accurate completion of innovative research that gets them to the next stage in their drug development projects.

Shawn Blackburn

As CEO, Shawn Blackburn provides strategic leadership and direction for YPrime. With a background in systems architecture and information management, Shawn has a built a reputation for helping companies discover insights about future opportunities by bringing together siloed information in meaningful context to support strategic decision making.

Since co-founding YPrime in 2006, Shawn has lead the company growth from a two-person consulting firm to a global organization that focuses on evolving technologies to help accelerate development timelines, simplify process complexity, and improve data quality across the clinical development continuum.

Prior to YPrime, Shawn had a long career as a technology consultant for Cephalon and Parexel. While at Cephalon, he was instrumental in the company’s development of applications to improve clinical trial workflow and provide deeper visibility into clinical trial performance.

Jaime Cook

Executive Vice President

Jaime Cook is Executive Vice President of Consulting. In this role, he leads YPrime’s efforts to help biopharmaceutical companies gain full visibility into their clinical data for deeper insights and faster decision-making through information integration, management and system support. Jaime brings extensive knowledge of clinical systems, cloud-based technology and programming languages. Since co-founding YPrime in 2006, Jaime has held a number of leadership roles, where he shaped the company’s business consulting and customer care functions.

Earlier, Jaime worked as a technical consultant and systems analyst for Cephalon, Merck and Perceptive Informatics. Throughout his earlier career, Jaime led development efforts for enterprise and purpose-built applications that integrated and displayed clinical data across organizations. The impact of these implementations resulted in faster deployments, detection of trends and decision-making support for a range of investigational products.

He began his career as a systems analyst at Dupont Pharmaceuticals (now part of Bristol-Myers Squibb). Jaime earned a bachelor of science degree in Computer Science from Towson State University.

John Larson

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, John Larson oversees all aspects of operations and product development, drawing from a diverse background in life sciences, information technology and services sectors. He is responsible for planning, development and daily execution of the company’s product and service lines, and associated support functions. Throughout his career, John has gained recognition for his passion involving technology and the future, coupled with his ability to introduce organizational-level change.

Before joining YPrime, John was Chief Operating Officer at CRF Health. There, he incorporated a big data analytics and insights approach to managing patient data in clinical trials for many of the top twenty pharmaceutical and biotech organizations. Prior to joining CRF Health, John was Head of Global Services for Medtronic’s Surgical Technologies business unit, where he successfully introduced a comprehensive cloud based services model that gained acceptance with physicians and hospitals worldwide.

Earlier, John held senior-level positions at Fischer Imaging Corporation, Philips Healthcare, Toshiba, NCR Corporation, involving operations, quality, regulatory, elements of R&D, finance and customer advocacy. John earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees of business administration from James Madison University

Mark Maietta

Chief Commercial Officer

Mark Maietta leads the company’s commercial strategy as Chief Commercial Officer. With oversight of sales, marketing and business development functions, he is responsible for ensuring the company’s commercial objectives and service delivery align and evolve with customer needs.

Mark brings more than 20 years of focused leadership experience within life sciences and technology sectors. Most recently, Mark served as Chief Commercial Officer for Clariness, a provider of digital patient recruitment and engagement solutions. There, he built and led global commercial infrastructure to drive revenue and position the company as a global leader. Prior to Clariness, Mark was Chief Business Officer at AdviseClinical, a clinical strategic advisory and staffing organization.

During his tenure as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for CRF Health, Mark re-designed business development and marketing practices to increase productivity and improve sales results. Early career positions with OPTUMInsight (now part of United Health Group), Pfizer and Novartis Pharmaceuticals included sales management and field sales positions.

Mark earned a master’s degree in business administration from Binghamton University. He received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Ithaca College.

Matt Rice

Chairman of the Board

Matt Rice is a Partner of Ballast Point Ventures. He leads the company’s healthcare practice and currently serves on the board of directors at Molecular MD, TissueTech, MeYou Health, Theragen and Inconixx.  Prior to joining Ballast Point Ventures in 2004, Mr. Rice began his career in the healthcare investment banking group of Raymond James Financial, where he focused on specialty pharmaceutical, drug distribution and contract research organization sectors. Mr. Rice also worked in the strategic alliances group at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research prior to rejoining Ballast Point Ventures as a vice president in 2008.

Mr. Rice received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University and earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Virginia.

Elizabeth (Liz) Tallett

Board of Directors

Elizabeth (Liz) Tallett is a respected industry leader who brings more than 35 years of experience in the global biopharmaceutical and consumer products industries. Her senior management experience includes President and Chief Executive Officer of Transcell Technology Inc., President of Centocor Pharmaceuticals, member of the Parke-Davis Executive Committee and Director of Worldwide Strategic Planning for Warner-Lambert Company.

Born and educated in England, Ms. Tallett graduated from Nottingham University with dual first-class honours degrees in mathematics and economics. From 2002-2015, she was a Principal of Hunter Partners, LLC, a management consulting practice that provides strategic advice and interim management for early to mid-stage pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies. Currently, Ms. Tallett serves as a member of the board of directors of the Principal Financial Group, where she is the Lead Director, as well as Anthem Inc., Meredith Corporation and Qiagen Inc.

Ms. Tallett previously served on the board of directors for director of Coventry Health Care, Varian Inc., Varan SemiConductor Associates Inc, and IntegraMed America Inc. In 2015, she was named by the Financial Times as an outstanding director of the year, an award that recognizes independent corporate governance at its best.

Ms. Tallett was a founding board member of the Biotechnology Council of New Jersey and is a Trustee of Solebury School in Pennsylvania.

Paul Blake MD, F.R.C.P

Board of Directors

Paul is the Chief Development Officer at Oxford BioMedica. Previously, he was the Chief Medical Officer at InfaCare Pharmaceuticals; Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Clinical Research and Development of Aeterna Zentaris, Inc.; Executive Vice President of Worldwide Medical and Regulatory Operations at Cephalon, Inc.; Senior Vice President and Medical Director, Clinical Research and Development at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now GSK); and worked for ICI Pharmaceuticals (now AstraZeneca) and G.D. Searle.

He qualified in medicine from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London University. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology. He currently is a non-Executive Director of Oxford BioMedica and non-Executive Director at YPrime. Paul sat on the Board of Memory Pharmaceuticals, Inc. until 2009. He has also been a Director of ViaCell, Inc., until its purchase by PerkinElmer in 2007 and a Director of Protez Pharmaceuticals, Inc., bought by Novartis in 2008. He has served as a member of the Inter-Company Collaboration for AIDS Drug Development and as a trustee of the Children’s Health Fund.

Dr. James C. Walker

Board of Directors

Over the course of a 23 year career, Jim Walker has served as CEO and Chairman of a venture-backed company for 13 of those years. Jim founded and was CEO and Chairman of Octagon Research Solutions, Inc. (Octagon), a global pharmaceutical services and software company. Octagon was acquired by Accenture (NYSE: ACN) in September, 2012. Prior to founding Octagon, Jim worked as a Regulatory Affairs professional at both Johnson & Johnson and Schering-Plough. Jim is currently the Chairman and CEO of Zoomi, Inc.

Jim is a graduate of Villanova University earning a B.S. in Science Comprehensive. Jim also earned an M.S. in Environmental Science from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from Duke University and his Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation was an exploratory study on adaptability in the workplace.

Jim has won the following awards: Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Recipient of the “Stevie Award” for Most Innovative Company at the American Business Awards, Enterprise Awards Technology CEO of the Year and Enterprise Awards Company of the Year.

Jim served on the Board of Directors for the Cadient Group, acquired by Cognizant (Nasdaq: CTSH) in October, 2014. Jim is also the Chairman of TrialScope, Inc. and Zoomi, Inc. He also serves on the Advisory board of EmeraldStage2 ventures.
