At YPrime, we know systems and clinical research– and are committed to forward-thinking solutions. From our origins as eclinical technology consultants for the biopharma industry, this is how we developed powerful applications to advance critical data functions for clinical research. Understanding and knowledge come from experience. YPrime offers more than a decade of focused work with clinical systems to expedite and improve the quality of patient management, clinical supplies, drug accountability and clinical data. Our mission is simple: To support our clients in the timely and accurate completion of innovative research that gets them to the next stage in their drug development projects.

As CEO, Shawn Blackburn provides strategic leadership and direction for YPrime. With a background in systems architecture and information management, Shawn has a built a reputation for helping companies discover insights about future opportunities by bringing together siloed information in meaningful context to support strategic decision making.
Since co-founding YPrime in 2006, Shawn has lead the company growth from a two-person consulting firm to a global organization that focuses on evolving technologies to help accelerate development timelines, simplify process complexity, and improve data quality across the clinical development continuum.
Prior to YPrime, Shawn had a long career as a technology consultant for Cephalon and Parexel. While at Cephalon, he was instrumental in the company’s development of applications to improve clinical trial workflow and provide deeper visibility into clinical trial performance.
President and Chief Commercial Officer
As President and Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Maietta provides executive leadership and directs the company’s commercial strategy. With oversight of sales, marketing and business development functions, he is responsible for ensuring the company’s commercial objectives and service delivery align and evolve with customer needs.
Mark brings more than 20 years of focused leadership experience within life sciences and technology sectors. Most recently, Mark served as Chief Commercial Officer for Clariness, a provider of digital patient recruitment and engagement solutions. There, he built and led global commercial infrastructure to drive revenue and position the company as a global leader. Prior to Clariness, Mark was Chief Business Officer at AdviseClinical, a clinical strategic advisory and staffing organization.
During his tenure as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for CRF Health, Mark re-designed business development and marketing practices to increase productivity and improve sales results. Early career positions with OPTUMInsight (now part of United Health Group), Pfizer and Novartis Pharmaceuticals included sales management and field sales positions.
Mark earned a master of business administration degree from Binghamton University. He received a bachelor of science degree in marketing from Ithaca College.
Executive Vice President
Jaime Cook is Executive Vice President of Consulting. In this role, he leads YPrime’s efforts to help biopharmaceutical companies gain full visibility into their clinical data for deeper insights and faster decision-making through information integration, management and system support. Jaime brings extensive knowledge of clinical systems, cloud-based technology and programming languages. Since co-founding YPrime in 2006, Jaime has held a number of leadership roles, where he shaped the company’s business consulting and customer care functions.
Earlier, Jaime worked as a technical consultant and systems analyst for Cephalon, Merck and Perceptive Informatics. Throughout his earlier career, Jaime led development efforts for enterprise and purpose-built applications that integrated and displayed clinical data across organizations. The impact of these implementations resulted in faster deployments, detection of trends and decision-making support for a range of investigational products.
He began his career as a systems analyst at Dupont Pharmaceuticals (now part of Bristol-Myers Squibb). Jaime earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Towson State University.
Chief Privacy Officer and Senior Vice President, Quality and Compliance
Steve Begley serves dual roles of Chief Privacy Officer and Senior Vice President, Quality and Compliance at YPrime. As Chief Privacy Officer, Steve holds responsibility for corporate privacy strategy and policy, and leads efforts to ensure company-wide privacy and data protection standards and compliance. As Senior Vice President of Quality and Compliance, he oversees the company's global quality function, including quality control and assurance, regulatory compliance, process improvement, software development and delivery, and quality management systems.
In these current roles, Steve provides the foundation and stability to deliver quality systems and products in a timely and effective manner across the entire organization.
Prior to joining YPrime in 2013, Steve managed global quality, compliance, and quality systems for Cenduit, ePharma Solutions and Clarix/Phase Forward (now Oracle Corporation). He began his clinical trial career in data management, supporting studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
Steve received his undergraduate education from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Vice President, Operations and Development
As Vice President, Operations and Development, Mike Hughes leads development and operations for YPrime's products and services, and the teams responsible for implementation.
For more than a decade, Mike has been actively involved in the evolution of mobile health solutions for clinical outcome assessments. Prior to joining YPrime in 2015, he served in multiple positions of increasing responsibility at CRF Health. Mike began as an application specialist in 2006, served in project management functions. As Director of Project Delivery, he oversaw the company's project management and software implementation functions.
Mike began his career as an application developer for Exact Software, a provider of manufacturing resource planning software for the apparel industry.
Dan Nellius is Chief Operating Officer of YPrime. A 35-year veteran of technology solutions, he brings extensive experience as a business leader and as an operator across multiple industries and global geographies. At YPrime, Dan leads the company’s business optimization efforts, with oversight of product strategy, delivery of user-centric software solutions, and organizational infrastructure.
Most recently, Dan served as CEO of Image API, a private equity portfolio company that evolved from an imaging services provider to a disruptive SaaS digital content management solutions company under his leadership.
During his long tenure at IBM and PwC, Dan held executive and operational leadership roles within multiple divisions that included Americas Advanced and Innovative Solutions, the Americas Industrial Sector Advanced and Innovative Technology Solutions, the World-Wide Oracle CRM/Siebel team and the Americas Communications CRM.
Prior to IBM’s acquisition of PwC’s consulting business, Dan was a PwC partner, serving clients in financial services, travel and transportation, telecommunications, as well as information and entertainment companies.
Dan began his career in sales and retail management for General Electric Consulting. He earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences from University of Delaware.
Robert Pierce is Chief Financial Officer of YPrime. He leads the company’s financial operations, with oversight of accounting, treasury, tax and financial reporting.
Throughout his career spanning more than three decades as a senior executive, Bob has been responsible for the execution of a number of strategic initiatives, including annual financial planning processes, mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, commercial growth and financial systems development.
Most recently, Bob served as Operating Partner of Aureus Capital, a private equity investment firm. Bob also previously served as Chief Financial Officer for Nuclea Biotechnologies, a developer diagnostic tests, where he developed private equity relationships and secured start-up investment.
Prior to that, Bob was Chief Executive Officer for Thompson Brands, a manufacturer of novelty and health supplements. Under his leadership, the company returned to financial profitability, and he transitioned the executive role to a permanent CEO.
Earlier career roles involved executive management, financial, and operational turnaround roles to companies across private equity firm portfolios, and for specialty manufacturers of chemicals, machined components and advanced materials.
Bob began his career as a consultant for PwC, providing financial, operational and advisory services to a variety of industrial and service-based companies.
Bob earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Delaware.
Vice President, Client Engagement
Jamie Schimmel is Vice President of Client Engagement at YPrime. In this role, he develops strategic and operational plans to ensure project delivery of the highest quality and client satisfaction levels. In addition, Jamie oversees the teams responsible for project implementation.
Bringing more than 20 years’ experience in global drug development operations spanning clinical development, late phase research and data management roles. Jamie most recently served as Vice President, Strategic Account Management for IQVIA where he was responsible for the clinical delivery of one of the largest portfolios for the company. There, he served as executive operational liaison between IQVIA and client organizations.
Prior to joining IQVIA, Jamie was Director of Late Phase and Outcomes Research for ICON Clinical Research, where he developed operational strategy and provided oversight for programs within all late phase areas.
Earlier career roles included project management and monitoring positions in clinical operations for CRO and biopharmaceutical organizations. Jamie began his industry career in data management for PharmaNet, now part of Syneos Health.
Jamie earned a master’s degree in public administration from the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at New York University, and received a bachelor of science degree in biology from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
